I was thinking that the girls themselves were aliens. There was a line in the movie where they talk about how nobody knows what they are doing. Or something like that.

it's what I thought... many alien 'abductees'report of their watches stopping. Time loss falling unconcious etc. Also there was a line about a red cloud in the sky.

Forget about aliens - think what could logically cause a 'red cloud'. It is a big clue.
