In my opinion, the subject matter is the same.
Cultural and sexual repression, cultural integration from a physical (notice the tattoos on one of the young men) and psychological perspective, class consciousness coming of age, confusion and conflict in choosing between natural biological urges and being 'sinful'.
And... exploring and coming to terms with the thin line between sex and violence and how these apply to colonization of raw nature with man's need to control it.
