What happened to Mrs. Appleyard?
Rachel Roberts? In the end of the movie. Was she just left with an empty school? Thanks.

The film says that she was found dead at the foot of Hanging Rock. In the book, Sarah's guardian had just written that he was coming for her, so Mrs. A -- on top of everything else -- was going to have to explain to someone apparently rich and powerful that his ward was dead.

shareThere is discussion elsewhere that Mrs A. May have murdered Sarah. As I recall she tells Mamoiselle that Sarah' s guardian had collected her that morning and there was no need to provide her with breakfast. How could she have known otherwise that Sarah had jumped from her bedroom - later discovered by the gardener. Complete failure of the school and guilt over her role in Sarah'd death led to her jumping from HR maybe?
