Points to ponder

Just jotting down these points here, so that come tomorrow when my head is a bit clearer, I can figure out what happened here exactly.

1) Both Hussey and McCraw's watches stopping at 12 noon - Cant be a coincidence. Might be that they were both in on some plan and them exclaiming the times was merely a signal for Miranda and the other two girls to get going. Edith wasn't in the mix, she tagged along unknowingly.

2) Madamoiselle De Portiers exclaiming Miranda to be a Botticelli Angel - Did some research. Botticelli Angel refers to Virgin Mary in Botticelli's painting "The Birth of Venus" where she represents divine beauty and divine love. Much superior to human love or beauty. Portiers was then merely exclaiming Miranda to be very pretty, almost divine. Nothing more to see here, move along.

3) (Annoying) Edith's scream - What made her scream? Also, in that same scene we can see a reddish sky on screen. Was that the red cloud Edith was referring to in her statement to the police? No clue whatsoever right now. Will continue thinking.

4) Edith's statement about McCraw - That she went running after the girls in her breeches. Again, no clue about it either. Will continue thinking.

5) Role of Bertie and Michael - They were honest guys, right? Think so.

6) Identical location of scars on Irma and Michael's forehead - Was that supposed to be significant? Curiously enough, if observed closely, the scar on Michael's forehead appears out of nowhere in the film. One moment he is lying down on the ground, the next he wakes up with a cut on his forehead. Was it just a goof on film makers' part? Or an important clue? No idea!

7) Irma's missing corset - First McCraw's missing skirt and then, Irma's corset. Something seems amiss for sure!

8) Sarah - She says she knew Miranda was never coming back. What's with that? Well, one more reason for her to have committed suicide I guess.

9) Sarah and Bertie - Lost siblings who are also orphans? What a tragic story theirs is!

10) Miranda - One of world cinema's greatest mysteries in my opinion. And what a perfect casting by the film makers. The actress looks so hauntingly beautiful! Don't think will ever forget her face. Botticelli's Angel for sure.

11) Significance of these statements -

"What we see and what we seem is but a dream, a dream within a dream."
" A surprising number of human beings are without purpose, though it is probably that they are performing some function unknown to themselves."
"Everything begins and ends at exactly the right time and place."

Phew! I loved this movie.

'I say the crude things, you just think 'em.'
You've raised some good points in your post.

I am glad you enjoyed it, and saw so much in it. After 45 minutes I was so annoyed and bored I was hoping the movie would disappear.

Lovely girls, great cinematography, BORING.
