Why doesn't he call back-up???

OK, he 's been chasing this serial killer over the rooftops of Paris, then through the Galleries Lafayette and then he's pursuing him with a Renault 16 ( how he can keep up with the killer's bike in Downtown Paris is another question)..now all the time he's on the mike with his colleagues about the bank robber! Why doesn't he call for back-up while he's on the mike anyway????

And since several cops were already following the bank robber, why didn't those cops just arrest him? Why did they need Belmondo to be the one to grab him? Any one of those cops could have done it.
