Opinions on Out of Season

I thought Out of Season was unusual and would like to know if any one really liked this film?

reply

I'm watching it now on tv, and find it a strangely compelling film. I've never seen Cliff Robertson in a film like this. It's beautifully acted.

I agree that it's a strangely compelling film and indeed one of my favorites. It definitely stands up to repeated viewings. Has a bit of the quality of "Long Day's Journey Into Night" (Eugene O'Neill play) IMO.

Susan George plays her usual character, but does it so well, and everything works. A great combination of actors.

I don't like it too weird for me.

Yes, I kinda liked it--very different and Cliff Robertson and Susan George were great in it. Vanessa Redgrave was good too--I especially liked the scene where they danced. I was hoping they would show the musical credits at the end since I was quite taken with the song that they danced to---lyrics about "Don't Spoil the Party"--I was wondering how I could find out the actual name of the song and the singer. Anyone have a clue?

Neither Siri nor Shazam recognize the song and googling 'don't spill the wine' and 'don't spoil the party' only gets me 'Spill the wine' by Eric Burdon or "I don't want to spoil the party" by the Beatles.

All I know is it sounds like a country song and it was released prior to 1975. I don't recognize the singer but these are the lyrics I heard:

...nothin wrong
and they won't find me cryin in my bed
don't spill the wine
don't spoil the party
don't take your love away from me
don't spill the wine
don't spoil the party
if you've eyes for someone else
don't let me see
and when the guests have all departed
and the room's all cleared away
will you leave me brokenhearted
here to face the break of day
or will you stay just one more night
close the door, turn out the light
help me to forget the things they said
don't spill the wine
don't spoil the party
don't take your love? away from me
don't spill the wine
don't spoil the party
if you've eyes for someone else don't let me see

I've tried googling some of the lines with no luck. I'm not sure if the song was supposed to be from their current time period or from when they were together 20 years prior.

Perhaps the song was written specifically for the film itself? In that case, it's possible it was never publicly released on a recording.

"I was cured all right!"

I've seen better 3 person plays made into films. I guessed the big reveal right off, seemed obvious. All 3 characters felt like jerks and it was hard to hear all the dialogue as they go from whispers to yells. The music and credits and the beginning and end do not fit the contnet, trying to be ironic?

if man is 5
then the devil is 6
if the devil is 6
then God is 7
and if God is 7...
