Major DVD opportunities overlooked

Will this ever see the light of day as an "official" DVD? I'm amazed this wasn't released in 1998, to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the event it chronicles. (There were several TV shows done about the event that year, including one with James Cameron, so it certainly didn't go unnoticed.) Even Edward R. Murrow's 1957 drama about the "panic broadcast," THE NIGHT AMERICA TREMBLED, has made it to DVD (the disk is called MARS INVADES THE EARTH, and includes the "Martian Eyes" episode of LIGHTS OUT, as well.) The owners also blew a chance at cashing in on all the interest when the Spielberg/Cruise WAR OF THE WORLDS remake was in theatres. (I think this was the only related title that did not take advantage of the opportunity.) It's been over 30 years since the film was made, and so far the only people making any money off of it in the home video arena are the bootleggers. (Like many sci-fi themed titles, there are plenty of people out there willing to buy it from a black market booth at a convention until the rightful owners get off their backsides and do something with it.)

Very true. And there are some VHS tapes of it that are terrible. (I know..I was stupid enough to buy one and it was too late to send it back at the time.) It is also interesting that this movie seems never to be shown on cable tv.

They know we're waiting, our fingers poised over the "Record" button....

It airs occasionally on Scream Network in Canada. I taped it about 2 years ago.
