Outstanding remake 30 years later

On Halloween night in 1968, Top 40 station WKBW in Buffalo, N.Y. broadcast an updated version of the original "War of the Worlds," using its own DJs and newspeople. I've heard it twice, and it's amazing — more realistic than the Mercury Theatre's version, in fact, much as it pains me to say that.

You can read about it and listen to it here: http://www.wkbwradio.com/warintro.htm. (The audio link's at the bottom.)

I suggest you listen with the lights off.

I've actually had the idea for awhile that it would be cool to do a 2012 update...having a cable TV station report on the invasion ('This is KNPW News Special Bulletin', etc) with the majority of the show featuring the sort of coverager they provide when no reliable vid feed is available (a map is shown onscreen, and the reporter's pic is in an upper corner, and so on)...occassionally, you could cut to 'Blair Witch' level amateur 'iphone footage' people send in, fuxxy and shaky, hard to see...make the whole thing as realistic as possible...would be fun to see the premise updated...;)
