With this year being the 75th anniversary of the War of the Worlds broadcast, I thought for sure that this movie would finally see a DVD release. Unfortunately, it is still only available on YouTube or bootleg, if one can find it.

There is also a 1957 teleplay produced by Westinghouse on youtube -- It's called "The Night America Trembled," and was a forerunner to The Night That Panicked America. I only just found it! I want to watch them both Halloween night.

How sad, that you were not born in my time, nor I, in yours.

Just watched another version I downloaded off YouTube some time back. That one was a rerun on WNEW in NYC in 1982. It included all the commercials and everything. A lot of fun, actually. Reminded me of just how imperfect broadcasting was back then, complete with long pauses in the commercial bumpers and some other mistakes in the master control room. Still, it's always fun to remember the times of one's youth.

The 1953 movie will always be the best in my mind, but surprisingly, this still beats out the 2005 Spielberg/Cruise film. It was more involving and felt more authentic. Or maybe not surprisingly, considering how bad that latest one was.

I used to watch that one often. I loved the walk down nostalgia lane with the commercials while watching the film. Sadly, tonight, I went into my Youtube favorites and it's been deleted. I just wish I had downloaded it before it was removed.

It's a Movie-on-Demand DVD and can now be found on Amazon for $20.
