'The Night America Trembled'

I just finished watching a Studio One broadcast from 1957, with Ed Murrow as host. Fascinating study/dramatization of the effectiveness of the show and reaction of some people to the original broadcast. Given world tensions at the time, listening to the broadcast was much like gawking at a horrific car wreck. Some folks couldn't change the channel, while others did.

And let's not forget that a new broacasting rule was instituted as a direct result of the radio play - "fake" news interruptions were forbidden for decades to come.

I recently learned that Welles used an FDR sound-a-like in the broadcast. I'm pretty sure he knew what would happen.
