DVD availability

Anyone know if there a letterboxed DVD available? I know Fox has not released it commercially, but has shown it in the past on Fox movie channel in the correct ratio.

I've never seen it, and am really feeling remiss since the death of director Robert Mulligan, who I much admired. This is supposed to be one of his best movies.

"The Nickel Ride" is indeed a great film. Sadly, as far wide as I can spread the word I can't prove it as it still seems no DVD release has taken place.

WHY? WHEN?? PLEASE???

I have wanted to see this for years - they had it playing on the Fox Movie Channel, but I don't have cable. Hopefully the studio releases this on DVD or at least Movies on Demand.

The strangest thing of all is that this movie is not on DVD despite the fact that Quentin Tarantino is a fan. He has shown it at his film festivals alongside The Stalking Moon; guess he really likes Robert Mulligan.

I saw the film as a second feature of a Drive-In decades ago - it was a melancholy tale, to be sure, of a guy for whom time is running out. I figure if you watch the film, and make a checkmark every time something happens that shows his control (and prestige) is slipping, you will follow the flow of the story the way it was intended. (I recall that, early on, his friends in the neighborhood throw a party for him and bake a big cake, but some punk walks up and ignorantly sticks his finger in the icing) . Am I correct? I thought at the time: 'that punk has no fear of the Cooper character, even though he is supposed to be some sort of legend - so, something is going terribly wrong - Cooper's bosses must be dissing him behind his back since this slimy punk has no sense that reprisals will come his way', if you know what I mean. An unusual, dark sort of story.

Yeah, that's what happens in the movie. Bobby is the mob driver who dips his finger into the cake icing. And then later when Bobby is proudly boasting about how he whacked Paulie ("Goodnight, Paulie!") and stole his wedding ring, Cooper beats the hell out of him in an elevator.
