One of the best action movies ever!

Look at the facts. Great martial arts action, awesome car chase, beautiful location shooting at Uluru, Sydney and Hong Kong, explosions, aerial hand gliding scenes, magnificent photography and framing, interacial sex scenes and cool action movie dialogue. All of this from 1975, long before your Die Hard's, Lethal Weapon's and Rush Hour's. No where near enough people have seen this film which is one of the greatest shames. Nothing like this had ever been undertaken in Australian film at the time and really deserves to rank in the top 5 aussie films of all time. If this was an american film I'm sure it would have a strong legacy. Sure it's 35 years old now but if everyone here who's a fan of this film introduces it to someone else who enjoys the action/martial arts genre, we can build up the fan base to something it deserves. It is THE premier action film and deserves it's recognition.

Oh and don't forget Jigsaw's "Sky High". Great theme song.

Long live Aussie genre films.

I love the ironic way in which the song was used during the end credits; "You've blown it all sky high..." Ha!

Why isn't this on DVD?

reply

It's hard to get but it is available in Australia on DVD in region 4 with commentary by director Brian Trenchard-Smith and a stack of other great features. I don't know where in the world you are dalldorfw, but try www.ezydvd.com.au, that's where I bought my copy.

I'm from the US, but thanks for the information.

Hi. This was from my previous post on this board concerning a U.S. DVD release. The U.S. DVD status has not changed since my last update.

At the moment, there has been no official U.S. DVD release of the film. There have been at least four DVD releases of the film overseas. One in particular was released by a company called Banzai Media Corporation. This DVD is a region free disc, meaning it can be played on North American DVD players. Unfortunately, this release is not shown in its correct Panavision aspect ratio (2.35:1). As a matter of fact, this release contains the exact same transfer (including incorrect aspect ratio), and special features found on the very first overseas DVD release of the film from Screen Sound Australia.

The Banzai DVD release can be found on EBAY.

Agreed, pure entertainment and action. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

It's now on blu ray in Australia, and it's still a lot of fun.

Seconded! Umbrella Entertainment's releases and choices are always great!

Wouldn't say it's one of the best but it definitely delivers the goods. Just two hours of Jimmy Wang Yu kicking ass, taking names, banging Australian babes, and being an all-around badass. Not the most sophisticated of screenplays, but it succeeds at what it set out to do, to thrill and entertain. I'd take this over any of the Taken or Fast and Furious movies any day.
