A good one to watch for Connery's in memoriam ***Politically Incorrect film***

No posts in 2 years.

A somewhat obscure Connery work (brilliant with M Caine), based on a famous book.

If you haven't seen it, a well written work, superbly acted. Highly recommend.

reply

Yep. This is a smashing film. Great performances by Connery and Caine - and also by Christopher Plummer as Kipling. A handsome, old-fashioned adventure yarn with quotable dialogue, glorious location work and a killer ending.

reply

I noticed no posts in two years.

I'm afraid this film has been placed on the Politically Incorrect pile, so young people don't have random encounters with it.

I haven't come across this movie while channel surfing in years.

reply

Honestly, I’ve never heard anyone complain about this movie and most people I talk to who have seen it love or at least appreciate it - but I would not be surprised if somebody, somewhere had tried to blacklist the film.

It is a movie of another era and still held up beautifully the last time I saw it, which was some years ago now. I plan to watch it over the next few days as one of my Sean Connery tribute watches.

I know it has been shown on British TV at least as recently as last year, so it’s still in circulation. No posts in such a long time for a relatively high-profile movie is surprising, though!

reply

I don't think it's disappeared because it's been marked PI - even if it is a Kipling story. Most of the films I've watched on TV over the years are no longer shown - which is why I spend so much time on YouTube these days looking for old half-remembered favourites. Tastes/styles and fashions changes and there are always the films of the last decade or two pushing to take the available slots.

reply

Yes it's speculative on my part to call it blacklisted.

The only info I go on is the lack of posts on this movie and that I haven't seen in on cable, the move IS now 45 years old.

But so is Jaws.

reply

2 years would indicate a "gone but not forgotten" film for me.
A lot of the titles I check out are a lot dustier that that, and often the last posts are me last time I came , which is annoying. (often with my imdb login)

A saw this a couple times as a kid , i remember it being wuite a story! even thoug hi dont remember the specifics .

reply

I wouldn't call it an obscure Connery film, it's a well-known classic with a team up of two acting legends, directed by the renowned movie maker John Huston, and based upon a short story by Rudyard Kipling.

Both Connery and Caine give tremendous performances in this boys own adventure yarn, along with Christopher Plummer and Saeed Jaffrey in supporting roles. Hopefully this will get a Blu-ray release in the UK soon! Great film!

I watched and posted Daniel's demise yesterday, it always brings a lump to the throat hearing Peachy sing that song as his friend falls.

reply

Just a great ending.

If anybody out there reading this HASN'T seen this, give yourself a treat and watch it.

reply

Yeah, it's kinda sad that a great movie like this has been ignored on MovieChat!

reply

I have not seen this one. On the watch list.

reply

Hard to argue that Connery appeared a better written script/movie.

For me it's a toss up between this and Hunt for Red October (1990).

reply

I might have seen this, but not sure.

reply

Not as memorable as Zardoz😀

reply

I really couldn't look away.

I mean, I also couldn't look directly at it.

I maintained a 45 degree angle during that movie.

reply

😆

reply

I really must put myself through zardoz soon :)
My knowledge is purely a still pic / poster of Connery in a rediclous outfit

reply

Get prepared for the big flying stone-head.

reply

Connery and Plummer both sadly gone within a few months... hope that Michael Caine has a good few years left in him. Bumping this to encourage more people to seek out this film.

reply

👍

Hard for me to say who had the best acting performance, Caine,Connery or Plummer. They were all excellent.

reply

Yes. Possibly Connery’s finest hour, and close to the top for Caine and Plummer too. It’s hard to choose between them but I do think Plummer makes a wonderful impression as Kipling with his limited screen time.
