Hmmm, a question about the millionaire's 'demand'...
okay, am I being naive or was 'mahogany' taken advantage of?
Mahogany's fashions were purchased by the millionaire - not her body. It seems to be implied that he expected mahogany's personal affections and gratitude just for opening a fashion shop for her. That was something she would eventually do herself - she had the skill and the exposure as a model.
Consequently, I get the feeling Rosetti was a dirty old millionaire with low esteem...You can't buy women and expect them to fall at your feet?
What am I missing? Is this the nature of how to succeed and become famous?
I like the movie because it shows how some men think women must play 'backup singer' to their dreams...Billy Dee's character was classic - a man who had aspirations but he dismissed his woman's dreams. Then, a wealthy man thinks a woman is automatically supposed to fall in bed with him. Never mind what she wants and he never specifically stated up front that's what he wanted...
Your thoughts?
