The Boat 'Lucky Lady' is still around

The Boat Lucky Lady is still in existence. It was named the Orient before and was re-named/christened the Orient after. I belive the boat was given away as a prize near the opening of the film.

"...she became the main prop in the B movie, 'The Lucky Lady', starring Burt Reynolds and Liza Minnelli. In the process, the original S&S designed cabin house was bastardized for a film..."
"Worse still, after the movie was over, the once grand yacht was raffled off as part of a Kool cigarettes ad campaign on television. As you might suspect, her raffle-winning owner didn't have the means or knowledge to maintain her."

Hello Harry,

As a note, I personally slept on the yacht used in this movie. My girlfriend's father owned it, and in the early 80's (I was in my early 20's at the time) I was invited to stay onboard the vessel for a couple of weeks. I slept in the bunk that Burt and Liza shared in the movie. I can tell you two things: first, the owner (my girlfriend's father) stated over and over again that he wished he had all the money spent on raising the "dog-house" 1-1/2 feet to accomodate the camera equipment, which he felt was a horrible thing to do to the yacht; and second, I can state that the yacht was in tip-top shape at the time I was on it. I do not know how my girlfriend's father came to own the yacht; perhaps he purchased it from the Kool contest winner. However, I can say with first-hand experience/knowledge that my girlfriend's father was indeed an experienced sailor and that he took immaculate care of that vessel.

the once grand yacht was raffled off as part of a Kool cigarettes ad campaign on television.

That would've been kinda tough, since cigarette TV ads had been outlawed
since 1970.
I saw the movie in '76, on a flight home from Japan and thought it was a great movie.
Still do.
I remember seeing the Kool cigarette raffle IN A MAGAZINE, but that was a while later. '77, '78, something like that.
I think I entered, because I really liked that boat. =)

Glad to hear she's still around and kickin'.

What in the wide wide world of sports is'a goin' on around here?!

IT IS!! I just swam over to see this boat, and was invited on board, yesterday. It had the official plaque describing her, and is a bit rough but still beautiful. It is so unique we noticed it parked on the Ohio last week(downtown Louisville, on the Jeffersonville Indiana side) and took pics. Yesterday it was in the party cove, so I swam over to see more. He bought it at a storage place near Denver a few years ago, traded a Camaro and a Harley for it and brought it here. It is called Lucky Lady, not Orient. 36 ft, a ton of teak wood, and below some exotic kind of wood I forgot. No a.c., but he is planning to update her. Teak is grey now, too much work to sand and refinish every couple years so he just uses teak oil.

The boat mentioned 12 years ago as still being called The Lucky Lady, is not the same boat as the Lucky Lady from the movie, that was called the Orient before and after the movie. The Orient is 66 ft long, not 36.The boat from the movie was in San Diego in the late 70s and early 80s. I crewed on it under the owner at the time, Tom Borst, for an Ancient Mariner race sponsored by the San Diego Yacht Club during those years, I recently unearthed tje tshirt that wasbbought for the crew. Here is a blog with more updated information on the Orient.
