Don't you just wanna punch him in the face sometimes?

I mean this movie has some very funny moments and is very clever and all, but don't Allen's smart Alec quips begin to grate after a while, especially here when practically every other line is one?

Allen's smart alec quips are why I like this movie so much.

Not at all. You, on the other hand....

Not at all; they are part of the reason this is my favorite Allen film. Through the extensive wise-cracking, Allen was deliberately paying homage to Bob Hope (who also wisecracks his way through numerous films). The genius of Allen is to mix it all up with a clever story that also pays homage to Russian novels and films, along with philosophy and other targets. I've been laughing at Love and Death since I first saw it in a theatre in 1975.

I agree. His incessant blabbering is perhaps the only thing I didn't like about this film.

You know what? why I watch Woody Allen movies?

For his "incessant blabbering' !!!

reply

Yeah the punchlines keep coming thick and fast and sometimes they do feel somewhat forced. But this tendency bothers me more, and seems a bit out of place, in Annie Hall which is supposed to be at least half drama yet often comes across as a stand-up routine.
