I saw this movie when I was a boy and it stuck with me

I must have been about 10 years old and the grandfather and the boys relationship was very sweet.

I recall it fondly and identified with it as a child.

Anyone else have fond memories of this film?

Yes, my grandmother took me to see it twice on Miami Beach when I was growing up. I wish I could purchase it on DVD. I even tried a Canadian company that sells DVD but apparently it hasn't been released. Too bad.

This would be airing afternoons on HBO when I was about 15 and getting home from school, and it stuck with me. I wish I could see it again.

I saw it at Hebrew school and the father's abuse haunts me to this day. Juxtaposed with the grandfather's tenderness, it's unbearably sad.
