all my life i've been trying to figure out how they found foster and williams in atlanta... atlanta is HUGE and for those gangstas being able to find 2 guys who didn't give their real names in a city like that was total nonsense... i know it's just a movie, but they should have explained this better...

Agreed. I had to re-wind and try to figure it out. When John Amos is in the bar talking to the boxing manager he says (about Jimmy Walker's fighting ability)" he must have been hynotized" this triggers Amos to re-call the two cons (Portier and Cosby) he then seemingly puts it all together. I know it's a stretch.

sharewell, they probably did some detective work. they probably found out those two weren't really mongo slade, then sniffed around to find out were in heavily black populated cities had a lot of money been spent on something big, or who was purchasing fancy cars, anything.
whatever they did it would take a long time, like 6 months, which is why they probably gave a long time frame so it wouldn't look like kansas city mack had just found him overnight, which would have been very improbable

After getting descriptions of Billy & Clyde, they knew they were out-of-towners...so let's see who recently has came into town and left THAT NIGHT.
That alone would give them their names, and then it's simply tracking down these guys to Atlanta.
