Why the low rating?

Why is the rating of this film so low (only 2.1)?

There are 14 votes, and the average as well as the median are around 5.5, with the votes evenly distributed between 10 and 1, so how can the weighted average be only 2.1 ??

Anyone care to explain?

Five years later, there are now 68 votes, and the rating has gone up to 5.0

Makes more sense to me, and the film certainly deserves it

Well, Leonor is a very hard to find film, and was not seen by many. When the film was released in the US, they marketed it as a cash-in on The Exorcist, even though the two films have nothing in common. So, many were extremely disappointed because they probably expected Liv Ullmann vomiting pea soup, and of course, it was not the case. Leonor is one of the all time greatest horror movies of all time, but it´s a film that only a few can actually appreciate how good it is.

The theater is like a faithful wife. The film is the great adventure, the costly, exacting mistress

It's more of a love story than anything else, it has some supernatural aspects and some horror but not a full fledged horror movie. Low rating is easy to explain, some people expected a really terrifying movie about vampires, and they got something else.

It's not a terrible film by any means, but it's also not a great one in my personal opinion. I gave it a "5" and think the current rating is about right. Richard's brooding over Leonor's passing lasted an entire hour and got to be rather monotonous and redundant. Since we're following him the entire film and he's such a scumbag, plus the fact that the Leonor and Catherine characters were thinly drawn blanks, it's difficult to really feel invested in the characters. Thus I found the "romance" elements which dominate the film lacked dramatic impact. It's difficult to fault this from a standpoint of technical value as the locations, photography, score, costumes, etc. were all excellent. I thought it was OK but could have been much better.
