Why 1975 Montgomery version is better than 2014 Ricci version

Writers in 1975 were better in touch with victorian attitudes than their 2014 counterparts. In 1975 writers probably had friends and relatives who lived in the victorian era. In 2014 the writers had no such connection. More modern attitudes had creeped into their story. -- That's my theory.

I'll give the writers of 2014 a little credit. They might possibly have felt the need to make this interesting to a younger generation. Even an old lady like me can understand that. I even find the more modern music sort of an interesting contrast with the period.
I confess that I do think that the 1975 version is better simply because the story needs no bells or whistles to make it interesting.... just good screenwriters who follow the case faithfully, and good actors.

I agree with you that it brings in another generation of enthusiasts. Which reminds I have to visit the Borden Bed and Breakfast!

Going there on vacation would be a dream come true for me. In which bedroom would you spend the night? The spare room where Abby died?

Slightly off topic Miss Margo, but if you enjoy this sort of thing, you might also find the Celia “Ceely” Rose story to be interesting as well. She was another young 19th century lass that went all “Lizzie Borden” on her family (But with rat poison, rather than an ax). There are no movies/books to my knowledge. But plenty to read online. And Ghost Hunters had an episode featuring the Ceely Rose house, which is said to be haunted.
