Why not released?

Does anyone know the real reason why this film has never been released on VHS or DVD in the US? I thought I had read somewhere that the Montgomery family blocks any and all attempts to it being released. Is this true?

The Montgomery family? Why would they care? This was a JOB for Elizabeth, nothing more, nothing less.

There is an ongoing dispute between certain parties that own the rights to this movie, and that is why it has never been re-released. It's a shame too; a lost treasure.

VCR's were still in their infancy in 1975, so I doubt anyone recorded this...

I was lucky and gained access to an original studio 35 mm print from which i made a DVD from so i have it to watch whenever i wish too, it is the European version too with about 4 more minutes of footage in it.

I just saw on Amazon that The Legend of Lizzie Borden is being released on DVD in May. I have several bootlegs, but I hope this will be the definitive version. @ElizabethMontgomery, what do the 4 minutes of footage consist of? I read somewhere that there was actual nudity in the European version.

It looks like Amazon has pulled it from any release in the near future. There's an option to sign up to be notified when this item becomes available. I'm disappointed.

I thought it was going to be released around now, but now it's suddenly gone? Yeah, I was thrilled to see that...

Yes, I had pre-ordered it and got an email saying it was delayed from April to May and I knew something was up and then I got an email saying it was delayed until September 2015! I was suspicious because the cover art looked exactly like a bootleg I had even down to the "Twisted Video" logo at the bottom of the picture. Twisted Video is just a made up name from the guy who sold the bootleg. I guess we'll never see a DVD release. Oh well, I've got my bootlegs.
