In Comparison to Miike's Remake...

Which is the "better" film?

I haven't seen either version as of yet, so is there
any benefit to seeing one version over the other first?

Rumor has it that this is one of Miike's more boring films.

But I must admit, the original version has me intrigued.

i havent seen the new one but i just saw the old one and it seemed like it was 3 hours long. it was only 1 hour and 33 minutes but it seemed like an eternity. i like yakuza movies and old japanese movies but this was boring.

Is this your homework Larry?

The modern adaptation of Graveyard of Honour is actually considered to be one of Miike's best movies. Definitely not his most famous, unfortunately.

The original is the better picture.

The original --- more daring, more psychologically cohesive, genuinely felt. As an above poster mentioned, it does require a slight attention span, but you'd have to be pretty addled on "2 Fast 2 Furious" and Pop Rocks to find it *boring.*

Miike's is alright, but he himself has done better, and not just in his 'extreme' mode. I'd put money on "Ley Lines" as his best Yakuza flick, though a lot like "Rainy Dog" too.
