The scene where Quint gets eaten is so brutal and shocking. I cant believe it got approved. Its one of the most horrific things ever put on film.

It's likely the first on-film death I'd ever seen. It was a thing of terror to me for a long time. Then I'd seen an outtake where Quint gets a lot of the blood in his eye and someone off camera starts laughing... totally destroyed my childhood nightmares for me.

I dunno. I kind of embrace those kinds of experiences, to a degree.

To this day I still look for fins and shapes in the water every time I go to the beach.

There are several shocking deaths in JAWS, but Quint was the only character killed who we’d gotten to know. He may have been a tad unhinged, but he was still immensely likable and commanded respect. Even Brody shows a certain sadness when he informs Hooper about Quint.
