The original book was called Jaws and the movie went into production with that title. It's an effective title, referring to the sheer size and power of those jaws on the beast. If I recall correctly, the name Bruce was given to the unreliable prop in the movie. I can understand why, since I had someone doing work for me who was unreliable and expensive.
