I wonder how reliable those 19th century statistics are, especially when to comes to continents like Africa where there's at least bullshark attacks.

...good question - I don't know the answer...

There's that and it seemed funny how attacks mostly seemed to happen in English speaking regions of the world or where there was lotsa western tourism. Hundreds of millions of people live by or make a living on the sea or the ocean but there are almost never reports of shark attacks on The shores of south & central America (except for Recife, Brazil), Africa other than South Africa, The Arabian Peninsula, the Indian Subcontinent, Western Asia, SouthEast Asia, Indonesia, etc...

Yea I don't think even today we have a global shark attack database where all or even nearly all attacks would be stored.

Incidentally, I sometimes look at a database of crocodile attacks, many of those attacks do happen in somewhat poor regions like Indonesia. There's also a lot more of them then fatal or non-fatal shark attacks.

It's just the info is so 'western-centric' & nobody notices it.
