Trashy Potboiler

If you loved VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, you have to check this one out...a glittery story of the rich and privileged abusing their privileges from the same authoress. After I read the book, I couldn't wait for the movie to come out and as silly and wooden as it is, there is something about it that is watchable and I find myself tuning in whenever the opportunity presents itself. Definitley another of my "guilty pleasures." Anyone else?

I just finished reading the book again for the first time since I was a teen-I'm now 51-and I would love to see the movie again! The VHS version is pricey from what I've seen-some folks are asking for 50+ dollars for it...

There is an instant rental on Amazon Demand for 2.99. Well worth it IMHO!

The Movie Channel Extra is playing this movie several times this month (June 2010), so if you have a cable service which carries that channel you may be able to catch it there without the $50.00 price tag that the old VHS copies are going for!

It was awful. To those who like this sort of thing, I guess it will greatly appeal. If you don't like the ridiculous, over-the-top, cheesey soap operas (as I don't), STAY away.

"Trashy Potboiler" is a perfect description. If it intrigues you, you'll love it, if it doesn't, do what I should have done and avoid it.

But she's beyond fabulous in Topkapi! Now that's a real movie.

Yes, me too - I loved the book and the film. I totally get that it would not appeal to everyone. But there was a great deal to love about it for those of us who are able. For starters, Kirk Douglas, Alexis Smith, and the supremely lovely Deborah Raffin.

Also, it was an interesting story, and yes the escapism of living vicariously through the rich. But I think the main thing was that I saw it at an impressionable age and it was very beautiful and romantic and totally relatable... I had a thing for older men when I was young too.
