song lyrics...poems

sometimes i wish there was a way to translate word for word the wonderful lyrics of the beautiful songs, and the tremendously breathtaking poem at the end of the movie.

people always seem to find words to substitute them in place of the russian language, but the meaning gets lost, the feelings cant be translated and the emotions are no longer the same.

everytime i hear alla sing, and everytime i listen to the memorizing poem, i feel thankful for being able to get the full picture, the whole feeling and the right emotions. i wish everyone could.

am i not the only one with those views? :)

I completely agree with you julia_d_22, with the only difference, that I don't understand enough Russian, to understand these beautiful poems. I would be grateful until the end of my life :-) if you post some of these poems here in this board (Akhmatova, or ...) Each time watching this film (every winter, since five years now!), I have tears in my eyes listening to these beautiful songs; they are so simple, so deep, so sad.

Or perhaps you could suggest some links to these poems?

Are you after the original lyrics in Russian or simply just their good translations?

Oh after such a long time an answer! :-)

I would be very grateful for the original text of some of these songs. The translation I will manage myself, although my Russian is not very good!

Okay, here is the text of the first song that Nadya sings to Ippolit. Poem by Bella Akhmadullina:

<sorry, tried to type the Russian, but for some reason it displays a bunch of illegible rubbish when I post it :-( I don't know how to correct it! Any idea?>

I can try to upload the English translation of it (the best that I came across) later. Need time to find it!
It'll be hard for you to translate it by yourself (especially if you use something like Google translate, lol)

This page is in encoding iso-8859-1 so it is hopeless to paste a Russian poem into it :-(

Nowadays we use unicode (this is for the maintainers of imdb)

Perhaps you could send it by email (I will try to give it here, but I am not sure, whether I am allowed to do so)

Take the first letter of my first name and the three letters of my last name "stepanek" or just look closer to my login name on imdb add the at sign, and then podiuminternational dot org

Do you understand this little brainteaser?

Perhaps you could just give a link to this poem? I looked already for a while for these poems. Really I would be very grateful :-)

Yes Google translator is always a good means to cheer yourself up ...

Haha, very creative! Yes, I guess I got it. Will try to send it over then. Will also try to do web search of the lyrics and may then post the link. Although, if I do find a page like this, it will ALL be in Russian, so might be a little hard for you to navigate...

Here is a good link I came across:

http://multimidia.narod.ru/films/film_22.htm

It contains all the lyrics in Russian, plus guitar chords. However, it's an all Russian site.
Good luck!

Hello all,

Did you manage to find any good English translation for the lyric of these songs? Could you please share the link or post here?
And another question: was the movie translated into English, and is it possible to find it in USA? Want to share with friends.

Thanks to all! Regards from Tashkent

I know exactly what you mean, julia_d_22. Not a native speaker, but I speak well enough to catch the nuances of the language and see how they do or don't come out in subtitles. Usually not terribly well. And a lot of the little one- or two-word phrases that Russians use all the time don't get translated, either.

I think we both just wish everyone could speak Russian! and appreciate it as a really wonderful language.
