Complicated love's triangle

Generally the film tells a story about love between Nadine and two man. I think that amorous triangle is more complicated. Servais screams almost crying after death of Jacques something like "Why he had done it to me before I knew him?". This scene suggest me that Jacques was a gay and maybe Servais has found something homosexual inside himself. Maybe Sarvains loves Nadine but also fell in love with Jacques in a strange way?
I don't know but men who play the main role in other Zulawski's movies like "Szamanka" and "La Fidelite" are heterosexual with homosexual experiences. What do you think about that?

reply

I just watched a version with English subs and, unless the translation was not accurate, Servais says "Why didn't he kill himself before he met you?", or something very similar.

I don't believe there was something going on between the men. Homosexuality does play a role in this movie, but it's mainly a subtheme considering the smaller characters like the always stunning Kinski.

+1.
this what exactly what Servais said

There's nothing gay about this. This is a love triangle (hetero). Actually, it's not really a love triangle since there is no adulterous "sex" among the 3 main characters (only the "others". This film is about feelings, that's why Romy deserved the Cesar award (AKA "French 's Oscar"). Servais is NOT a loser actor, just compared to Romy S.. When he shouted "Why didn't he kill himself before? Servais didn't understand the situation Jaques Dutronc 's character and Romy S. or it was just a rhetorical question (maybe). This is about love but feelings, Romy had to use a lot of acting in emotionial pain, her star quality, facial expressions...etc >> that's why it was hard for her to carry the film with sucssess. Fabio Testi is good in this movie, too (much better compared to the one he played opposite Raquel Welch). If you know French enough to understand the normal conversation, you can watch it without English subtitles and still understand 80% of the film. I had watched both German and the French restored version by Studio Canal (both in Region 2). The pictures improves dramatically, like 200% better! It is worth to get the French re-mastered one.

Not only is there no adultery but the married couple Jacques and Nadine do not make love anymore. So it is a sexless triangle, with the central theme being the feelings of the three as their relationships alter.

reply

More significantly, the trio are ensnared in a world of depravity where sex is part of the economy.

As others have written the words do not translate as you thought but one thing is so, this is a complex triangle that is strangely aromantic.
