According to the info on that page, it has Korean subs only.

It has been released in Germany on DVD. You can buy it on Amazon.de and is has english subtitles. I know because I have a copy. Everything else on the DVD is in german, including the menu. But the english subtitles are there.

reply

Any chance of a screen grab to show the English subs/cover please? Other people have said there is no subtitles of any kind.

Just got my copy of the German release to which lippertokes refers and wonder if anyone knows how to access the subtitles? They don't come up automatically, can't find an option in the menu...I'm puzzled (and feeling a little burned!). The image, of course, is gorgeous (a far cry from the VHS I've relied on for years). Not ready to hand over the dough for the AUS. box-set (which says nothing about English titles either mind you) 'til I've exhausted this one. Thanks for any wisdom...

You've probably tried this, but does your DVD remote control have a subtitle button, or similar, that would let you see if this is an option?
I would like this DVD, but preferably with subtitles!

reply

Tried the remote and have now handed the disc off to a German colleague who, I suspect, will determine once and for all. Will let your know

reply

The German version on the Art Haus label has no subtitles at all.

thanks for the info

Friends, it pleases me to say that Axiom Films may very well be bringing this out on DVD in the UK in the near future:
"Axiom Films is delighted to announce the acquisition of UK and Irish rights in all media to the majority of influential German filmmaker Wim Wenders's back catalogue, including: THE SCARLET LETTER (1972); THE ISLAND and FROM THE FAMILY OF REPTILES (1974); WRONG MOVE (1975); IN THE COURSE OF TIME (aka KINGS OF THE ROAD) (1976); THE AMERICAN FRIEND (1977); NICK'S MOVIE (aka LIGHTNING OVER WATER) (1980); ROOM 666 (1982); THE STATE OF THINGS (1982); PARIS TEXAS (1984); TOKYO GA (1985); WINGS OF DESIRE (1987); NOTEBOOKS ON CITIES AND CLOTHES (1989); A TRICK OF LIGHT (1996); BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB (1998) and LAND OF PLENTY (2004).
This coincides with the release by Axiom on 4th January of one of Wenders' most poignant films - and winner of the German Critics' Prize in 1974 - the seminal, ALICE IN THE CITIES - the first of his films to be shot (in part) in the United States. ALICE IN THE CITIES is also the first in his famous "road" trilogy, and is followed by WRONG MOVE (1975)and KINGS OF THE ROAD (1976), both also starring Rudiger Vogler.

The deal was negotiated with Hanway Films on behalf of Reverse Angle GmbH."
