Not really; nobody I know who has read the sequel liked it at all. It's as though they were written by different people.

Well, that certainly explains it! The sequel hasn't got the same spirit as the original at all. Was it even written by a woman?

Alas, said biography has not yet been translated into English, so I can't say; I got that off her Wikipedia page.

Why would she let someone else pen the sequel?

Remember that she got into a lot of legal trouble with the first novel due to the obscenities, and it was only in 1994 that she admitted about being the author. By that point, it was highly acclaimed whereas the sequel wasn't.
