Well... not really. But he was kinda lame and annoying.

Movies made based on true events take too many liberties. They are always not accurate.

I saw this movie when it played at the theatre and I had to look that part up because I wondered if he actually survived. I remember people were laughing in the theatre when the dogs picture was shown at the end as one of the survivors, so I always thought he survived.
