A Good movie but...

I saw this movie a few months back and thought it was pretty good

But...
The print i saw was in terrible condition. The sound was extremely muffled and the contrast so poor it was often very difficult to tell what was actually happening.

Please tell me there are other prints out there that have received better care than the one i saw.

In addition i do not find the Christian references in any way off-putting. They are thoroughly in context of the family and their actions.

Maybe you can find a copy that offers it in closed caption. That's how I watched it.

You can rent it from Netflix and the print and audio quality are excellent. A great movie, but I didn't even know it was a concentration camp the way it was portrayed in the movie. The ten Booms were not Jewish, and the movie never mentioned the gas chambers or ovens. I visited Dauchau in Germany and went through a tour and saw the ovens and the shower (gas) area. I visited it with a jewish man who was in the Air Force and his Mother, Father and Sister had been killed there, but he was freed by the Americans when the Germans just left quickly when they heard the American tanks approaching.

The movie didn't tell half the story. Get the book instead.

Even in the book, there is not a lot written about Jews in the prisons and camp. I don't know if that means they weren't there or just that it was not a big deal, that everyone was treated the same.

As far as systematic extermination, the book does show that. In the concentratino camp she was in, when the camp got too full, they took the sickest and oldest hospital patients to the gas chambers. Corrie herself was released due to a clerical error - all women her age were gassed the week after she was released. I don't see a whole lot of distinction between that and how the Jews were exterminated. In each case it was a fell swoop of an entire group - the sick and old, groups of women classed solely by age (as opposed to what religion, what crime, or even their behavior in prison). There is even one description when a prison is evacuated and before they go, over 700 men are shot (no discrimination) simply because fewer men prisoners meant easier transport and easier guard duty. They simply had too many prisoners to guard, so they killed 700 men.

Sounds pretty systematic to me.

I got it from my library on DVD and the condition was excellent. I don't know if you saw it on VHS, but you might want to try a DVD.

Un-shun. Re-shun.

You can find this movie on VHS and DVD at both eBay and Amazon. I purchased it from Amazon(only because I don't always trust eBay), and it is in wonderful condition. It only cost $12.99, which I didn't think that was too expensive. Best of luck!

The one I got from Netflix was in great shape, sound and picture.

Digitally sharp copies are up on youtube (now that is, 2014 -- I realize that we all are replying to a post that is eight years old.)

I don't know if they pull them down for copyright purposes or leave them up as a public service on the content. (Of course denying any such motivation, as they have to police their collection.)

But you will have to do a search.
