Watch after the credits on DVD! Very cool !

They show a pics while a recorded phone call with Edie and Al from 2000...very nice.

I am a man and I would gladly give birth to a baby if it were Keira Knightley's.

I could not get that DVD "egg" to work. How did you do it?

reply

No egg...I just waited until the credits were over, they show the color bars, then blank screen, then it starts. You can FF to it or just wait.

So you mean the "new" Grey Gardens, not this one, from '75?

reply

I still say I could not get it to work on the 2001 DVD, maybe it only works on the new issue (2006) DVD?

No it does not work on the VHS.

On the easter egg web site it says "when you get to the start of the 'pics' after the color bars, rewind the DVD just a bit and the voice will start. Not for me.

"So you mean the "new" Grey Gardens, not this one, from '75? "

the hbo version was made after both edies were dead.

reply

There was a DVD released in 2001. but the Criterion collection in 2006 had that DVD plus the Beales DVD (which I really liked).
I don't mean the VHS version.

reply

I meant the 75 documentary DVD from Netflix.

Yes, That is the 2001 (and the 2006 Criterion) DVD I am talking about - from the 1975 VHS.
In the Criterion collection set there is a 2nd DVD called Beales Of Grey Gardens and it is very good, mostly about little edie. More singing and dancing as she liked.

I have it on mine - I just finished listening to it. It made me so happy to hear Edie, I just beamed. She talks to Al about how she kept calling AT&T because she was having problems with her phone, and she couldn't hear it when it rung, how nice it was for him to send her a Christmas card, how she was a Democrat all her life, and hoped that Al Gore would get into the presidency in 2005, how her December was ruined with they craziness of the voting down in Florida, if he could send her some "big" pins, about how many people come up to Al and say how much they loved Edie and her mother, how many fan letters she gets, and how he has to come to see her. Her exact words were: "You might die, somebody might shoot you or something, so you have to get down here." Lol! One of the saddest parts of the conversation was Edie proclaiming that she's loved Al for all these years, and is sorry she didn't snatch him up and marry him when she had the chance.
Her voice aged a bit, but it still sounded like good ol' Edie - her accent didn't fade one bit. I just loved being able to listen to her more recently. She was such a sweetheart.

"You should learn not to compete with me; I always win!"

reply

I thought it was so funny when she told Al she wanted the "big" safety pins, and Al asked her "how big, about two inches?" And she kept saying, "What?" It was so Edie.

reply

I know! And she'd say "Oh, I can't hear you; isn't that a shame?" and just move on to a new subject. Lol.

It really IS classic. I was so incredibly pleasantly surprised when I first heard it. It felt like a Christmas present, or something. Even when I hear it now, I can't stop smiling.
