Why Little Edie didn't want to be buried next to her mother?

Does anyone know why? Seems odd that she put that in her will when she lived almost her whole life with her mom.

Perhaps so that she could finally achieve what she couldn't or didn't want to in life - true independence from her mother. Or perhaps simply because she lived in fantasy and was attracted to the idea of her ashes scattered in the ocean....tossed about by the waves, but ultimately free.

Also, she quotes an author in the documentary who wrote: "We come like the water, but leave like the wind" - that was the kind of freedom, a romantic freedom, that she yearned for.

My grandmother stipulated that she did not want to be buried in the traditional family plot with her in-laws, "because I spent too much time with them when they were alive and I'm not going to spend eternity with them". So, we put her way across town... hope her spirit is resting peacefully.
