HOW DID HE BECOME A GHOUL

** POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD **

My memory's a little sketchy - it's been awhile since I've seen this - but Peter Cushing's inimitable scene where he describes how his family fell apart has always stuck with me as one of his best.

His missionary work brought him to the attention of an important Prince of India, who was thoroughly corrupt, hedonistic and may have been involved with a Thuggee-like cult. The Prince introduced his wife and son to his decadent lifestyle, seduced the wife and was responsible for her death somehow (again, sketchy memory). He got the son hooked on human sacrifice and a man-meat diet, and that's probably when the doctor decided it was time to high-tail it back to England with what was left of his family.

Here's where I get confused: he also brought back, as a cook, housekeeper and caretaker for his son, an Indian woman who's a devout practitioner of the Prince's cult religion. Of course she's going to convince him that his son can't survive on regular food. For cryin' out loud - ship the old biddy back home and toss your kid a salad!
