Just looking at the opening credits of Devil's Express on the Tales of Voodoo Volume 3 DVD it is The Devil directed by Chang Jen Chieh http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0229335/

"Life is a hideous thingummy"

"Life is no way to treat an animal, not even a mouse"

reply

Yes thats what I have here too they changed more than one title in the T OF VOODOO Sets and have some crappy versions also. The Devils is though the clearest I have seen to date.

I just wanted to let you all know that, though I've heard and read over and over that GANG WARS and DEVIL'S EXPRESS are one and the same, they are NOT! Though Warhawk does star in both, DEVIL'S EXPRESS is a different film and is the one with the demon. I've seen them both and I found a nice print of DEVIL'S EXPRESS (I don't really like GANG WARS). All the best to you ;)

reply

Hi Yes I know that they are completely different films , do you know where to obtain GANG WAR's? Thats the one I am looking for (even though you didnt like it) any ideas? I have seen the poster art but never the vhs or any other format. Thanks!

reply

I actually watched a vhs print of Gang Wars that starred Warhawk and featured the subway demon. So i'm not sure if there are a lot of different versions of the same film or what the case may be. Just thought i would share.

reply

I've watched 2 different OFFICIAL VHS releases of Gang Wars, both are EXACTLY the same versions with the SAME subway scene repeated twice in a row!!! I think if there are different versions of the film, maybe this title 'Gang Wars' was more for the fighting/kung fu crowd...?

Ok folks, here's that interview with a woman who worked on the film, it should clear up some questions:

Very interesting to note the amount of now famous talent that worked on this movie! Enjoy!

That's a bootleg though, an offical release is out in a few months on the Code Red label.

reply

Code Red hasn't even announced this as a title, even as we enter September of 2008. We won't be seeing this DVD for a year or more.

GANG WARS (a.k.a. DEVIL'S EXPRESS; special edition): Code Red/BCI

reply

In July, Code Red told me that they hadn't yet located the original 35mm elements. They had been in contact with the rights holder, and a few of the crew members, so there's certainly momentum.

I haven't asked lately, so there's no telling if CR has found what they're looking for.

As for being on Fangoria's Chopping List, many of the titles in the Future Undated section have been "in the works" for years. Angst, House on Straw Hill, Revenge of Billy the Kid, The Redeemer, Thou Shalt Not Kill...from 2 to 3 to even 4 years and still "coming soon". That list is a mix of titles that are definitely in the works, or have only been mentioned by a given label.

In my opinion, given the current slate from Code Red, Gang Wars is at least one year away, possibly two. They have a number of high-profile genre releases that will probably come before: Silent Scream, Terror Circus, The Mutilator, The Visitor. Also, they have their most anticipated DVD, Nightmare, still without a release date.

Of course, I could be completely wrong. I don't work for Code Red, so I don't know every detail of their schedule(not even close).

Don't get me wrong. I'm looking forward to a Gang Wars DVD from Code Red. I just think that it's a long way off.

Code Red has released a very nice DVD of this, available through their website - http://codereddvd.bigcartel.com/product/devil-s-express-aka-gang-wars Nice print, and appears uncut.

Gang Wars and Devil's Express are the same film. One is a retitle; I have an old VHS titled Gang Wars and it's the same movie, but with a running time a little shorter than Code Red's Devil's Express DVD. There is another Warhawk Tanzania film called Black Force which is sometimes claimed to be a retitle of Devil's Express, but it's not - Black Force is a different film. It's available on a DVD collection called Urban Revenge. Quality's not too good, though.

And, like others have said, the "Devil's Express" on the Voodoo Tales DVD is a Chinese horror movie called The Devil. It's worth seeing just for all the actors puking up live insects, worms, and centipedes, but it has no relation to this film.
