James Caan

I loved James Caan in this movie. His singing was sweet, and as others have said he had GREAT chemistry with Barbra Streisand.

He was also really good in For the Boys. Maybe Mr. Caan should do more musicals. :)

Caan was great in this movie...he made his character very likeable and he had surprisingly solid chemistry with Streisand.

Oh, I beg to differ! I disliked him from the moment he referred to Roddy McDowall's character as a "pansy" and I knew from the minute Streisand ran into that blond on her way to "the can" that he was going to cheat on her at some point.

I do agree Caan and the chemistry were good, I just disagree with the "made his character very likable" part.

Good point! I hadn't seen that. In the end though, he lost out. Eleanor Holm, the star of his Cleveland aqua show, got a lot of money out of their relationship.
In him I saw a good man from the beginning and he was taken advantage off. That's way Fanny was willing to forget about the affair. When she mentioned his feelings for Eleanor, he said "she loves me" but didn't know if he loved her.
And the pansy comment, albeit a rude one, was just jealousy and/or him trying to be cool.
