Reality check?

** Spoiler warning **

Here's some things I dont understand about this film.

1. The French Officer wont allow Popeye to see a doctor when he's going cold turkey. Now considering that Popeye was kidnapped and forcibly made to become an addict, why would it matter about the fact that his addiction was on the record? Why would NYPD throw him out for being the victim of a crime at the hands of a cartel? This doesnt make sense.

2. At the end when Popeye shoots Charniere, why does this happen? Popeye is a cop and cops arent just allowed to kill people at random. This is a murder and a cop of Popeye's experience wouldnt just kill someone like this. This is another thing that just doesnt make sense.

Movies need some attachment to reality to remain credible.

1. Because there would be fear that he would become an addict again. Wasn't his fault, but it is still a risk for his department.

2. Charniere was involved in Popeye's kidnapping and the drugging. It wasn't at random. And there was no other way to stop him from getting away. As to why he shot to kill. Cops only shoot to kill. They don't shoot to wound.
Oh and not to mention the drug lab shoot out that Charniere was apart of.
What I want to know is where Doyle got the gun, maybe I am forgetting him pick one up. But in the drug lab shootout he drops his gun to climb the wall, and is running around with a gun in his shoe the entire time durring the shootout?

Doyle was running around with the gun on his ankle the entire time. He did not draw it because Henri told him to keep it hidden when he gave it back to him. Also, Doyle killing Charniere was not murder. He shot a fleeing felon which was probably legal in France.
