Inconsistences about how Charnier is portraied on the first films.

A t the begining of this movie when Doyle arrives to Marseille te french policeman Barthelemy tells him that there is not records about Charnier and that most probably that name is an Alias.
But in the firts film Charnier is shown as a notorious bussinessman(That scene where he talked about making bigger piers on Marseille port) and if I remember the people used to call him by the name of "Charnier".

He could be an elusive benefactor. Someone who is known in certain, private circles but otherwise not known to the public. Men like him walk amongst us everyday. Wielding a great deal of power without making a spectacle of himself. He has people who serve as his "face" to the public. Remember this man had police and government figures bought and paid for, he could easily be a "ghost" if he so chooses.
