Okay, I know, it's about three years later...

My theory is that they're not inserts. I've been able to track down most of Franco's imfamous films uncut (and he did full blown porno films as well, as did Lina Romay, Franco's girl.)

For one thing, the hardcore scenes matched (in color, charactor, and actors.) I've seen "Bare Breasted Vampire" (AKA "Female Vampire") with inserts, and don't bother tracking it down. The actors are from a different movie, and the hardcore scenes (which are pretty hard to see) looked like they were lifted from a different movie all together. They didn't even bother to use Romay in the scenes (maybe she was busy.)

The same could be said with the film "Exorcisms" with hardcore inserts that seemed to not be lit the same.

But, as I've said, those guys were hammering out some porn during this period, so I'm pretty sure it was real. I don't know about the DVD though, at least in America, because you never know. Franco's still letting multiple versions of his films be released. (Don't even get me started on D'mato flicks. I almost blew $60 on the "Emanuelle" box set, but a fellow blogger alerted me that they were basically remastered versions, but they were cut! I wish I hadn't taped over the version of "Emanuelle in Bangcock" I had on beta from 80's cinemax days, it's at least a MORE explicit version.)

I hope this was helpful. I'd almost stick to the VHS version. Franco's flicks were reasonably low budget cheapies anyway, so the remastering of his material is questionable. If there's a lot of wear and tear on the VHS, you could always transfer it to DVD.
