not as bad as all that

one of a dozen or so movies i have on vhs (yes, vhs) from years ago that i actually have no recollection of ever having watched...before today.

i read that chabrol himself wound up considering this his "worst" film...
and then, there are all the middling to bad reviews of it.

i think it's amusing in places, certainly benefits from having ann-margret in it (i'm not a big stephane audran fan, although she gets points for being french), and is about a writer.
it's kinda muddy, but it's not the disaster it's made out to be.
