Arguably one of the finest rock films ever made, none of the members of Slade were actors but they aquit themselves very well. The music is suberb and avoids the normal intrusive use that most films of this genre use.Their are no "hey lets put on a show" moments.
Get the new remastered version of the film and the soundtrack cd and enjoyone the finest groups to emerge from the UK.
The book is well worth reading ,even more gritty than the film.

It would have been nice to have had a commentary track and a few outtakes but still a top notch package.
Flame is easily one of the best "rock" films ever made and finally seems to be gettingthe recognition it deserves.

Marvellous film. The band really perform well imo. Alan completely steals the show tho. I just bought the dvd and I was very happy to see a 40 minute Noddy Holder interview as the extra feature. Slade are the greatest band out of the UK after the Beatles.

I'd go along with that.

It was interesting. I'd say...a rental, not a buy (but definitely worth a view). Hard to understand in spots, with the heavy English accents. When they showed it in American theaters, they subtitled it, according to Noddy Holder (in the DVD interview which is interesting).

I'll hand it to them...they went for something different. Very bleak and unforgiving in spots. My only criticism is that I thought the ending was a bit abrupt. But, that's just my opinion.

I wish I could say I loved it – or even liked it. I was frustrated by the lack of music and coherent narrative. It's probably worth buying to satisfy your curiosity if you're a Slade fan, but though the band members are very prominent in acting roles, the music falls by the wayside. I'll give this 6/10 for now, but I'll rewatch and possibly upgrade (or downgrade).

This one deals with too many things at once and doesn't explore all of them sufficiently. It needed to be made, but it's about bickering, poverty, shady management, and artistic compromise - dreadful stuff to think about when you're looking to be entertained by one of your favourite bands (who else is going to seek it out but a fan?). The acting is very good. Flame reminded me of Rocky a lot stylistically, and it could've been a Rocky of rock'n'roll films, but it doesn't focus on a win for the protagonists, so it's just too depressing.
