More description of the plot

I am looking for a specific kung fu movie from this era and cannot find it. This one sounds close but everyones description of the plot is too vague. Do the heroes train in different areas like cutting down bamboo or slopping out deep holes. If what I am describing is not this film, maybe you can tell me what movie I am describing. Thanks.

The movie begins with a narration that explains that the Shoalin temple was burned down. We are introduced through titles on the Five Shaolins who escape. Then we are introduced to the Five Bad Guys. One of them has twin bodyguards and can kill with his pony-tail. Another one has an axe head attached to rope. Anyway, the Five Shaolins eventually train for the big battle. There is some bamboo breaking and bamboo stabbing. I don't know what you mean by slopping out deep holes. The heroes must practice different styles in order to match up to the bad guy each must face.

I've been looking for the movie you're describing. Landed here on the 5 Masters of Death in hopes too, but I don't think this is it. Have you had any luck finding it???

reply

i think this is the movie where at the end, 10 masters square off against each other in pairs and i distinctly recall it ended with 2 "wins", 2 "losses" and a "draw" for each side. dead even.

One of Chang Cheh's better films - possibly the best of his Shaolin series. A link to a full review with cast info is listed below. I highly recommend picking up the remastered Celestial DVD of this one!

Well I'm looking for a particular shoalin-kungfu flic as well.

I think It was about 5 poor boys who ended up in shaolin,
and trained end then end up defending shaolin for it burned down.
Then they ( it hink ) escaped, later to come back again together
and do more battle.

Each warrior had his own unique skill, very interesting.

I DO remember 1 particular scene very clearly.
At the end of 1 film (it was at least 2 flims) 1 shaolin hero
with very long hair in a ponytail caught a speer or multiple arrows,
and as he did he died standing!, with his eyes open muscles
constrained, no movement, he was dead yet he stood!

And also, 1 warrior could make very very very high flying kicks in the sky,
wich was some sort of attack.
They all had long hair in a ponytail wrapped around their necks..
And the only way the bad guys to kill him was to thrust a spear from his
crotch up to his body as he was doing that special attack.
(he was betrayed into the secret of killing him.)

Who can help me?

I love these kungfu movies.

In this movie, there are five pairings (well, one is actually 1 on 3), but all of the villains are killed and two of the heroes are killed.
I cannot think of any movie that fits the description of what you mentioned.
Perhaps if you gave more details?

my sister and i have been looking for this movie for years, if it's the right one. yes, it has fu sheng and we recognize the other actors. there was a master who jumped in and out of cesspools, there was a master who wrapped bamboo around his torso to toughen his midriff area (this is the one who was speared to death at the end). fu sheng's character toughened his hands up on a stone mill. the other masters we aren't too sure about. if anyone can remember, that would be great! years, man, years

If you haven't already discovered it the film you're looking for is The Four Assassins(aka Marco Polo)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073326/?ref_=rvi_tt. I been searching for the name of it for over a decade and finally someone solved it for me on the I Need To Know board after probably a dozen attempts over the years. Years, man, years is right.

I believe the movie all you guys are looking for was released stateside as DEATH CHAMBER. It's listed as SHAOLIN TEMPLE (1976) which is sort of a prequel to this film, which was shown on TV as RETURN OF DEATH CHAMBER. I only know this because we taped Death Chamber off TV (early FOX), and the announcer said next week was RETURN OF DEATH CHAMBER, but I didn't see a copy until about five years ago. Anyway, Death Chamber had various heros joining Shaolin Temple right before it's destruction for various reasons. Two guys joined to train for revenge. Some army guys are hiding out after losing on the battlefield. Other guys are just new students. If a guy training on rock spikes, a guy jumping all day with weights on his legs, or a guy making soup with a bo sound familiar, that's probably the movie you're looking for. The character Ma Fu Yi is shown being killed in Death Chamber, which makes his role in Return of Death Chamber a retconned goof.

The film Shaolin Temple (1976) that you are referring to, made in 1976, is a direct prequel to Five Shaloin Masters (1974, aka Five Masters of Death), so see them both. For more, check out this link which is invaluable resource for Shaw Bros. & other kung fu film fans:

The only problem I've had is finding movies by the correct titles as given on this site, not as given on USA Network's old Kung Fu Theater back in 1982, which is when I first saw these gems.

Sorry you have to wait this long for someone to reply but what you're looking for is 'Marco Polo' aka '4 Assassins' featuring American Eurocult actor George Harrison, same director Chang Cheh & mostly the same Chinese crew as '5 Shaolin Masters'. Other than old bootleg videos, there isn't a Region 1 release for this one yet (however there is a remaster release available for Region 3 in Asia).

That's Right- I thought it was Marco Polo. I'd have to go with 5 shaolin masters or Death Chamber ( shaolin temple) as better flicks. The 5 shaolin & Shaolin Temple movies focus on more "real" martial ars, where as Marco Polo has a lot of, well, silly stuff- blocking swords with arms, ridiculous jumps as combat, etc. Shaolin Temple also has a nice Wing Chun sequence, which is pretty rare in those days.
