Unquestionably John Water's Best

No doubt the best of his early films. This film is filled with great one-liners, characters, and bad clothes and hairdos. Desperate Living doesn't even come close to being as good. Anyone else agree?

Oh, I do - I grew to appreciate Female Trouble after a while - see, I didn't think anything could be wilder than Pink Flamingos and I was very loyal to the film, not wanting to hear anyone say that FT is better than PF. Well, guess what happened. FT depended on dialogue more than anything else and it is uproarious. Mink, of course, stole the whole damn thing - I loved that Waters plucked Susie out of the basement and into Divine's circle, and Cookie was always cool. In fact, I had a neighbor that reminded me of Cookie and she should be in films, too. [We lost touch when she married a bakery truck driver and had 3 deformed children whom I wouldn't have minded smashing a chair on]

I digress - I was just watching it last night and really loved it - I'm over the whole PF FT battle - PF was a learning experience and Waters was a valedectorian with Female Trouble.

NOW - Desparate Living seemed as if Waters was desperate himself to live up to his earlier stuff - with David dead and Divine on stage somewhere - I think Waters made the movie out of a sense of panic. I have a hard time watching it - not because it's gross, but because it tries too hard. It's like going to bed with a REALLY needy person - you want to walk away, but you feel you can't. In fact, the two films I can do without are Desparate Living and Cecil B Demented - but when you consider not liking only 2 out of 12 released full-length films is a decent track record.
