Can anyone tell me this film was actually banned, I thought it was pretty tame considering it was supposed to shown horrific violence and rape etc. The only killing worth mentioning was the old housekeeper women, who had her throad cut, that was quite graphic, but not much else actually happens.

shareYou'll be shocked how many of those "Video Nasty" movies are rather tame and nothing special, and there's no good "pattern" of why some got banned while there were dozens of other movies which were far far more explicit.
I mean, why in the hell would something like "The Devil Hunter" be banned? It's tame even compared to some other Jess Franco movies.
This one? I guess it's because of sexual (perverse) themes in the movie, not violence itself, because movie is rather tame, even to some other movies that ended up on this list.
