i am trying to think of the title of another movie that is very much like this. it is a kid's/family movie done around the same time and in the same style as witch mountain. if you know what i'm talking about, please help me. i'm going crazy.

the movie is about a young boy who has a great life. he goes for a walk one day and slips, and hits his head and is knocked unconscious. when he wakes up, he goesback to his house but the door is locked. he rings the doorbell and there is another family living there who tell him his parents moved away five years ago. the boy is confused and scared and somehow (i don't remember, i haven't seen this in a while) ends up quarantined at some government facility. aftera little while he manages to escape and in this effort comes across a spaceship. he boards it and flys away. the rest of the movie is him developing a friendship with the ship's AI, while looking for his parents.

that's about all i remember. the ship had a shimmering silverish look and was steered by putting your hand on a glowing orb.

if anyone could help me, i'd really appreciate it.

The movie is Flight of the Navigator.

Was it a Disney film?

Yes "Flight of the Navigator" is a Disney movie, however it was made in the 80's well after "Escape to Witch Mountain". Sarah Jessica Parker was in it, she had the purple hair, and ran the robot that delivered the mail!

i'm also trying to remember a movie, i think it was made in the 70's or 80's. It kind of reminds me of escape to witch mountain (cinematography really), but there is a girl who is visiting a family in some rural town and they live in a big mansion and the house/family has secrets, and as the movie progresses she tries to figure out what it is, and at the end she's in this tomb and a light shines through and something happens.
Wow, I sound like an idiot, but I thought I'd describe as much as possible of what I could remember. If anyone has the slightest idea or clue as to what movie it could be, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

You're thinking of Flight of the Navigator (1986). :) I don't see anything in common between the two movies, except for the fact that both had flying ships.
