Here is a bit of info about the Region 1 dvd that is available for North America. The distributor is 'MVD' and this is a censored "softcore" version, with a running time of only 85 minutes. It is dubbed into English. The picture, not digitally remastered, is simply a direct dub from a VHS tape, although the picture quality is pretty good anyway. It seems like there is at least 7 minutes cut from this edition, possibly more. Not worth the $25.00 asking price on ebay. It is a mystery why this staple of erotic cinema is not available in its true form for north America, or for most countries. There was an uncut Polish dvd, which offers the hardcore version along with original Italian audio, but subtitles in Polish only. And it is out of print. The terrible "Black Emanuelle 2" is widely available for some reason, so perhaps this is a copyright problem. Hopefully someone will pick up this important title and give it a proper release. It is Laura Gemser's debut as Emanuelle, after all! Wake up people!!

For those interested, there is an Australian dvd, NTSC. Picture quality is VHS level as it looks directly dubbed from an old tape. However the aspect ratio seems right in this widescreen print. Running time is actually 92 minutes, which seems about right, although watching this i cant help but feel there is stuff cut out. The English track now seems appropriate, as it appears that this was the original language Black Emanuelle was filmed in. I would still love to see a remastered edition of the "hardcore" version which has seemingly only been released in Poland(!) But this is good enough for me..

Too bad the Uncut Harcore Version DVD seems to be out of print.

I think that this movie deserves a Region 1 NTSC DVD.
