How did George Kennedy climb the Totem Pole??

He was 50 years old at the time. That is him on the summit with Clint. Did he climb it the traditional way or did he get help? Same with Clint. I know he was a few years younger than Kennedy. How did he manage it?

The summit was big enough for a small helicopter to land them on, strap them down with hidden safety gear and then film them.
Regardless of what methods they used.....it's a great scene
