Strange R2 Problem

Here is a question to anyone on this board that has bought "The Eiger Sanction" on Region 2 DVD in the UK....

For around the first 30 odd minutes of the film, does your DVD cause your DVD player to make a really loud humming sound (so loud the DVD player shakes)... i'm asking this cause my copy does (and the several times i've got a new copy from various shops) and i've tried it on 8 different DVD players (from standalone to PC DVD players) and the same problem occurs.

Does anyone know what causes this as i havent watched the film in years but want to but can't because the humming is so loud i cant hear the film even with the volume full ????

I bought a copy (bargain bin in woolworths at Metro Centre, Gateshead) and it is fine.
My brother in law has had a copy for 3 or 4 years and it is also OK.

Must be the entire batch mine came from then, bloody Middlesborough.

Yeah mine does that!!! weird, i even pushed the scart lead into the back of the DVD to try and stop it before reading your post.

The Eiger Sanction R2 DVD is awful!
The movie is very good and should have an better release on dvd.
R1 is awful as well.
Bad picture in 2.35:1 non anamorphic with terrible mono sound with noises as you comment.
What`s the point with dvd when the vhs is almost as good?

PAL VHS tapes were in many cases better because you didn't have the problem of PAL speed-up. But in the case of NTSC, VHS tapes didn't look as good. I put in a PAL tape the other day and was surprised it looked so good, but then I realized I usually used to watch NTSC most of the time.

I´ve had this humming problem with another R2 Eastwood film, Magnum Force. Also the DVD player vibrated so much that I haven't watched the disc since, I was afraid the player would break down. Interesting to know that this has happened with another Warner/Eastwood title as well...It really would be nice to know why this happens.

The Eiger Sanction is actually a Universal release ...

Yes I have a DVD that does that.
