USA

I came across this movie on VHS back in the late 70's, at a Video Rental Store, and have not been able to find it since, will they ever rerelease it in the USA?

Hey man ;p

I bought a 3 volume set of VHS Asterix movies way back in the 80's...

It includes Asterix the gaul,Asterix and Cleopatra, and of course The 12 tasks of Asterix!!!

It was released by Buena Vista home video, and of course they are all english spoken ;)

I just watched all 3 from end to end,and cant see any dates of when they were made tho,and neither are they written anywhere on the covers or tapes themselves ;(

In the Gaul, and 12 tasks, all actors credits are in french(no english voice actors were credited),but in Cleopatra,Lee Payant did the voice of Asterix(he co-directed the french version)and Hal Brav did the voice of Obelix, even tho he's not credited for it on imdb.

I myself have searched the net for any sign of these(my box set),and i cant find a thing, but as i said,,they were made in english.

I'm curious what they would fetch on ebay, seeing as they're still practically mint lol

I know its a late post, but just in case anyone else is curious,,its here now lol ;p

I just bought the DVD boxset wich features the first 6 movies!

6 movies for 20 bucks... great value! Unfortunately, they`re NOT remastered, simple copies from an old master.

Where did you buy them?

I grew up reading Asterix books sent by family back in The UK and was fortunate enough to catch a broadcast of 12 Tasks during the early days of The Disney Channel. Buena Vista owns the distribution rights to Asterix films in the u.s. However, Asterix is the number 1 competition against Disney in the rest of the world, so they use that control to keep Asterix OUT Of the u.s!

The only Region 1 DVDs of the 2 live action films are in French only with no English subtitles (for the French Canadian market). I was able to get a region free Korean issue of the first live action film, but the English subtitles are often a bit odd. There was also more recently a new animated film that looked fabulous but of course has not seen the light of... er, projector bulbs, in the states.

There are folks with VHS or laser disc copies of 12 Tasks and the other animated films who are selling them burnt to DVD-R on eBay for a nominal price. The 6-box DVD set is Region 2 so you need a region free player in order to watch them. They are fairly common outside the states, but hard to find within and often more expensive.

This situation is exactly the argument that was raised against region encoding when DVDs first hit the market 1997 from film collectors, and championed by distributors who were sick of people being to buy whatever films they wanted from Japan. Fortunately Hong Kong remains region free so there are still options open.

I liked the first live action film (Roberto Benigni is hilarious as Julius Caesar) but have not seen the second one yet. I was told by French fans that is much better.
